Discussion:
Visio 2003 gets stuck in UML modeller, Visio can't exit

After doing something (not sure what) in a sequence or static class diagram, binary associations stop responding (you can't open their property window) and if you try to exit visio a dialog pops up

"You cannot quit Visio because a program is handling an event from Visio. If VBA is at a breakpoint, reset VBA, then quit again.

Only way out of this is kill with task manager. At least I can save first so nothing appears lost.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the community.

First of all, I would like to confirm my understanding of your issue.
From your description, I understand that you are working on a sequence or
static structure(do you mean a structure here?) diagram, after doing
something, you can't open the binary associations property window. And if
you try to close visio you get the error message as below.
"You cannot quit Visio because a program is handling an event from Visio.
If VBA is at a breakpoint, reset VBA, then quit again."
Have I fully understood you? If there is anything I misunderstood, please
feel free to let me know.

Since I can not reproduce the problem on my side, to isolate the problem, I
suggest you disable the Antivirus software and restart the computer.
After the PC rebooted, you may start the visio and create a new simple
sequence or static structure diagram to see if the problem persists.
If you can post the reproduce steps, I will appreciate your efforts, this
will help us to futher troubleshoot the problem.

Best regards,

Peter Huang

- Generally this has happened while modelling static structure diagrams, I make a new binary association and sometime later it won't open

- I can't reproduce this at will either, it just happens now and then. I set visio to auto save every 5 minutes and haven't had any major issue with lost data since then

- I am not running any anti virus software on this system, this WinXP SP1 up to date per the MS update site; I'm running the latest Visio patch

- The system has been restarted numerous times and this problem still occurs

- If you can give me any information I can use to get more data when Visio gets stuck like this I will happily gather/post it when it next happens.

I have a way to reproduce this, I have a file (which I can mail you) that when you ctl-A ctl-C in a given sequence diagram you get an error dialog saying something like 'Can't open clipboard', after that visio won't exit with the 'vba' error. Would you like me to send you the file?

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know it's not just the UML modeller where this happens -- it happens consistently when I try to copy an ER diagram using the database model diagram. I get an error message, although the data are transferred to the clipboard and I can paste them into Word, but then when I try to close Visio, I get "You cannot quit Visio because a program is handling an event from Visio."

Hope you can fix this quickly :-)

Thanks,

Nancy Capitanio

Hi Soul & Nancy,

Thank you for reporting this to Microsoft!

As I have posted, we are currently working on this issue. However, each fix should be tested and checked in different scenarios to ensure it will not
affect other functionality after the repairing to this issue. Appreciate your understanding!

I'm having the same problem. If it helps, I have a clipboard tool
application (ClipMate), and it happened the first time I ran Visio
