Discussion:
VS 2005 Web Control Library missing in VS 2008 - Where did it go?

• VS 2005 - Has “Web Control Library”

• VS 2008 – Does not have “Web Control Library”

• I looked for “Web Control Library” in help and got…

You can use the Web Control Library project template to author custom Web
server controls. The template adds the necessary project items needed to
start creating a control that can then be added to any Web project.
The template automatically adds the essential project references and files
to use as a starting point for your application.

But nothing on what I need to do to get it going.

• I tried looking for the “Search Online Templates” but it doesn’t give me
a list of templates to select and load, etc. Instead it sends me to a MSDN
search results document search area.

• Is the “Web Control Library” called something else?

• Is there a replacement template for “Web Control Library” that I should
be using?

• Is there some new process model I need to start using?

• Is there some document that explains what has happened, why, and what I
need to be doing now?

Mike-

I have the same problem. When you install VS there's an option there for
"web". I did a full install, but no web control library. I removed the
option and reinstalled it but still no joy. Let me know if you find anything.

open VS 2005, File --> New Project, Expand the 'Project Type' tree node of
visual basic/visual c# as per your choice, select the child 'windows' of this
tree node, in 'Templates' section you will get 'Web Control Library' template.

Best!
